Ford 5000 brakes leaking hydro fluid

When I filled my hydro fluid up, I noticed I had fluid leaking under the left wheel where the brake linkage goes in, and when you press the brake in, the fluid shoots out. I assume the rubber boot is leaking, and the part is only a few dollars. Is that my only problem and how big of a task is it too fix. I have a I&T shop manual and it shows the exploded view but not how to fix the problem. I just got done working on my head so I should be able to tackle this.[/list]

So I won't have to tear into the axle? Just pull the brake rod out and pull the seal out and put the new one in correct.

like said, not a bad job.
when you are under there you will see what needs to come apart to pop the old seal out.
When I did the left side on my 5000, it was tough to get anything up against the seal square to pound it in evenly.
I laid a pickel fork over the seal around the rod and gave the handle a whack and it went right in.

Of all things available, I use a wrist pin from a JD 730 over the brake rod as a driver to seat the boot. I know, not everyone has one of those lying around.

Big screwdriver or chisel to get the old one out. Small hammer to tap the new one in around the outer circumference.

The procedure should be fairly obvious to you once you have the new part in your hand. The seal is a press fit into the housing, just like a conventional seal.

All goes like everyone says. Just make sure you get the center back where it gets into the step in the rod.
