Ford 640 Hydraulic Pump

Hi everyone, Short of knowing the year and serial number (or pulling the pump), how do you know if you have a piston pump or vane pump? My 640 is a
1955. I don't have the serial with me at the moment. Does the housing look physically different at all between the two styles?
Thanks in advance!

In that case, I must have the piston pump. What was the reason for the change? Smith's Ford page states "The original NAA hydraulic pump was the vane type that ran whenever the engine did which meant the hydraulics always worked as long as the tractor was running." Thanks! Doug

Most likely, the change from the vane to the piston pump was due to cost considerations.
