801 carb leaking

When I bought my 871 the previous owner had rigged up a new fuel line with a lawn mower type fuel shut off right at the carb. So I replaced everything with the correct sediment bowl and metal line.

Then my carb started leaked. So I assumed it needed a rebuild. Bought a "basic" rebuild kit off eBay and tossed a new needle valve and seat in the carb.

Still leaking! It's a VERY VERY SLOW leak. Even if I shut the gas under the tank, overnight it will leak out into the carb and drop out the intake of the carb.

I hung the carb on the tractor with the bowl off and tested the float- it seems to be working manipulating it with my fingers.

The only thing I notice is my 860 has a spring under the float to push it back up, and this is missing on the 871. Could that be why it leaks slowly overnight? Should I buy a "complete" carb kit and hopefully it includes this spring? [/i]

Could be a couple simple problems like the needle seat is not tight enough, or it could be the needle tip is the new rubber type and you have to put a set in the end of it by tapping on it when in the seat to put a set in the rubber. But a small leak like that is very common on tractor carbs

If you are sure that you have installed the new needle and seat correctly and that the float is not leaking or sticking (not sure about a
spring to push up on the float -?) then please see my reply to the other poster who is having a similar problem.
