2600 intake manifold heater??

Operators manual talks about an intake heater if you turn the key left. My key switch does have a spring loaded position to the left. I see a large diaphragm looking thing with 2 wires on the intake. Also see another sensor furthur down with 1 wire and a tube. None have power when key is turned left.

New switches will have it come on when cranking.. turn to on. Then turn a bit more till the red lights go out but it does not crank.. At that position the glowplug/thermostart/manifold heater should be powered up. Hold it for a count of 15 and then crank.. give or take.

One wire and a tube is the Thermostart unit. Two wires and diaphragm is the air cleaner restriction indicator switch.

I have the manual and can turn the switch. i'm not finding what it is supposed to be activating. That's what I'm trying to identify.

OK, so the 1 wire and tube one is the thermostart. What's the tube for? Should i have power on that wire when the key is in the L position?

Tube is the fuel supply. Wire should be hot in the thermostart position. This is usually the first spring loaded position, however it depends on the style of your key switch.

Do all 2600 diesels have the thermostart feature and the air cleaner indicator as this poster describes? I have an early 76 model 2600 and don't see either of these features in my intake manifold. Should I? I just ordered a new wiring harness and will be installing it soon so I want to understand completely before starting. Thanks for any info.

The thermostart was an option on the '65-'74 thousand series, so I would assume that it was also an option on the x600 series as well.

The parts diagram for the 2600 shows the start date for the air cleaner restriction switch was April 1, 1976, and according to the unit number that you posted in your other thread, yours was made on April 28, 1976, so if everything on the parts site is accurate yours should have it, but the parts site isn't always accurate. The parts drawing doesn't show it being connected directly to the manifold though, it shows it connected to the tube going from the air filter to the intake manifold.
