3000 gas with holley carb running rich after new fuel pump

Looking for some expert opinions here. I just put a new fuel pump on this tractor. After getting it all back together and starting it, it started to leak gas from a short rubber gas line by the carb. Today I replaced the rubber gas line. Now the tractor is running rough and very rich. Black smoke and all. The tractor ran like a top before I replaced the fuel pump. My guess, the new pump has more pressure and the carb is flooding. Needs to be rebuilt? Anyone have any ideas?

yes...maybe goop on needle valve and float. goop can cause float to hang up. or bad seal on needle valve. check for smooth operation of float but beware that with carb together the float can rub the side of the lower housing and still hang.

found problem to be new fuel pump is delivering way higher gas pressure to the carb. Should be 2 pounds or less and this one id over 7 pounds. Will have to install a fuel pressure regulator.
