3400 coming together... Doh!

Ok so I'm putting my 3400 back together (thanks to all for your support/advice). Shortblock going in, head going on, went to slip the oil pump drive in and guess what - what I thought was "the oil pump drive shaft" and goes in the top as per the Ford manual is actually "the intermediate shaft" which goes in the bottom!

Gasket set came with two different thickness gaskets, I put the thinner one on my cast iron pan and of course copper sprayed it so it's shredded. Do I go buy a new thin gasket, use the thicker one or just RTV the pan on?

I'm leaning towards running the thicker one.

And I spent 45 some minutes trying to wiggle that durned intermediate shaft into place through the drive plug - 3rd time it dropped into the pan I couldn't get the magnet on it.

You need to use the thin gasket.
The cast iron pan is part of the structural integrity of the tractor.
Having a squishy, mushy gasket does you no good.
And you can't get the bolts that go from the rear of the pan through the holes with the thick gasket.
Edit:
I should have said you can't the the bolts that go from from the rear of the pan into the transmission through the holes with the thick gasket.

Arrgh, I knew you were going to say that - what if I sand the thicker gasket down? :)

Dealer wants $61 for part # 87802061 !!!

anyone know of the tisco part #?

completetractor on that auction site sells one for $13.68 with free shipping pn C1109-9414T

This site doesn't specify stamped or cast

my spare gasket is .060 and it's blue paper (not cork) the one I shredded is .030

Guess I'll have to call the suppliers and see what their notes say.

(UD I was really hoping you'd tell me the thin one I tore up was the practice gasket.....)
