Hydraulic Control Valve

I'm posting this question for my brother. He has a '53 Jubilee/NAA that has a problem with the hydraulic lift. It was leaking down real fast and eventually got to where it wouldn't lift at all. It was also hiccupping real bad when it did get the load up. He took it to a shop for repairs and they got the lift to where it would lift a load and stay up good, however they told him the hiccupping was caused by a bad control valve and that they could not be gotten anymore.
I went online and looked for him and I checked all of the web sites I know of that sell parts for these tractors, and not one of them had a control valve. Seems they had just about everything else but that for the hydraulics.
Does anyone know if they are still available and, if so, where can he get one?
Thanks for your help.

ypically only used & it is best to find a little used complete assembly because control valves are sub one-thousandths fit and a select fit. Swapping in a spool from another unit is likely to not fit.

There are several other possibilities for hiccups. I would not assume it's a control valve, even if they said so. Myself, I would be peering inside with a flashlight to get a visual on where the leak is exactly.

Your local Caterpillar should be able to rebuild your valve spool or will be able to send it to a dealer who can. You'll need to give them dimensions.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda!" Check Break, you be sure to post the name & address of the CAT Dealer who has rebuilt the control valve in a Ford NAA tractor. Many need to know! Have you ever seen or had your hands one of these in the NAA? We won't be holding our breath. :)

How about if I give you two. In Northern California or Northern Nevada, Chromecraft in Sacramento. This is Peterson Caterpillar's subcontractor and the choice of many mines in Northern Nevada. In Central California, Quinn Caterpillar in Fresno. They do their own work.

You're right about my knowledge of the NAA; I've only seen a couple of valve spools and don't remember much about them so I looked at an online drawing. Not much help there either. Valve spools can be built up and ground and the valve body honed if you have the $$$$. Caterpillar went this route more than ten years ago when the price of new valves were more than the market would bear.

Maybe a NAA spool isn't worth rebuilding but if I had one and wanted to spend the money, I'd ask Quinn to help me out.

Sounds like that might be a solution alright. Might cost more than another old tractor, though. Any WAG as to what $$$$ that kind of work goes for?

spool valves and the control valve are a bit different. One is external, the other is built into the tractor.

Have you tried a new "ring" on the control valve? I believe you can still get them.

HAT?! WHERE it is located gives it a different name?! What "ring"?

The last ones I did were $500 a hole in 2002. Pricey if you're just trying to get an old tractor up and running. I believe an independent shop could do it for less if there was enough of a demand.
