In a hurry & messed up.......

Hello, today i was changing fluids for the first time on my Ford 3000 gas. Oil and filter-no problem. Transmission fluid was milky so drained that. I was looking for the PTO fluid check (no dip sticks?) and loosened a plug under the seat and fluid gushed out. :(

Fluid was a brownish color. Now I don't know where or what to refill this section with. Can anyone help explain what i did? I have no manual for this tractor.

Thanks for any help.

Was the tractor running when you loosened that plug? If so it was probably just the test port for the 3 point hydraulics, which is the largest bolt head on the 3x5 plate that you see when you look straight down between your knees when you're sitting on the tractor. If it wasn't that plug, post a picture of the location where the plug is. There is no "PTO fluid" per se, the PTO shift linkage gets slpash lubricated from the fluids sloshing around in the rear axle.

That tractor has 3 sumps for oil/fluid.

The first sump is the engine crankcase where the engine oil goes. The drain is on the bottom of the oil pan, the level check is the dipstick and the fill is via a tube on the top of the valve cover.

The second sump is the transmission. The drain plug is on the bottom of the transmission. The level check is a hole on the right side (as you're sitting on the tractor) of the transmission case near the brake pedals with a square headed pipe plug in it. The fill plug is the large hex head on top near the shifters. After you drain it and replace the drain plug, you remove both the level check plug and fill plug and fill it through the top until it just begins to drip out the side. If your transmission fill plug has a dipstick it is likely a plug from a later x600 series, as the 3 cylinder thousand series did not come with a transmission dipstick. It is likely close enough to be fine, but if it were me I would fill it the first time using the proper level check hole on the right side and then see where that comes to on the dipstick just to be sure.

The third sump is the rear axle, which is also the sump for the 3 point lift hydraulic fluid. The drain is also on the bottom, further back than the transmission drain, and the level check is also on the right, back near where you right heel is when you're sitting on the tractor, and it also has a square headed pipe plug in it. The fill hole has a large hex head plug in it and it is back on the right side of the top of the differential housing, under where your right butt cheek is when you're sitting on the tractor. Draining and refilling procedure is the same as the transmission.

The transmission and rear axle should both be filled with a UTF that says on the label that it meets or exceeds the Ford/New Holland M2C134D specification.

Yes that is the one I loosened after it was off and it still had some pressure it it and acted like a geyser! I found the two fluid level bolts/fill caps and refilled the hydraulics/rear end.

Thank very much for the excellent answer!
