Identifing a old Ford

At my place of employment we have a old Ford tractor that has been called a 8N or Jubilee. I looked at the model number and serial number that I found on the flat right above starter on "bell housing". Top row of numbers is 41201. Bottom row of numbers <> 18405 <> . Can someone identify this tractor. Thanks.

Well if it is an 8N it has a flat head engine and the numbers are on the side of the block. If a later one then the number sit behind the starter under the battery box just above a pair of horizontal holes and the top one will be the model number and the bottom the serial number. Of course a picture will go a long ways

By me researching it on the net it looks like a 800 series. The rear axles are one piece and don't have a nut to hold hub on axle so different sites say later than a 55 model. It has power steering, 3 point and pto. I don't know if it is a 4 or 5 speed. It is painted red and gray but has some blue paint under the red. When I look at different sites such as http://www.oldfordtractors.com/identify.htm they describe the model number to be 3 digit. This tractor has 5. It is in a penal institution where cameras are not allowed or I would get a pic. Thanks

Still sounds like your not looking in the right place for the numbers. On the left side just below the battery you should see 2 horizontal bolt holes and on the flat area above those holes are where the numbers are that say model and serial

The model numbers make sense but it looks like a hundred series or 01 series and not like old style 2000-6000 series. Wonder if it was a transition machine caught between models?

Thanks Mark, that is where I have been looking but it has model numbers that are of a 2000-6000 series but sheet metal of a hundred series. Any ideas?

It has the Cyclops hood but the medallion is missing. Do u think it was on the assembly line with sheet metal ready to go and they changed over to thousand series? it looks like this 1961 2000 http://www.oldfordtractors.com/id/industrialbuff.jpg

Not very likely as the serial number indicates a 1963. So the transmission is from a 63 4000. You could try and find date codes on other castings. It is far more likely that parts have been swapped over the years.

Mark

You are more than likely right about swapping parts. So as far as buying replacement parts do u think just get what the model/serial states?

Could be a 4000 that has had the sheet metal changed out, or it could be a hundred or '01 series that has had the transmission replaced. The date codes on all of the other components will help tell you what the majority of the tractor is.

post a pic and the casting number off the engine, and the axle code.

it's possible someone just threw a 53-62 hood on it. for the most part, with a little swapping and fitting and depending on which gas tank was swapped. all 53-64 tin swaps. ( minor hand fitting required at the dash and hinge hood spacings depending on tank and where the steering column hole is..e tc. )
