My neighbor asked if I could determine what model his tractor is. I have't seen tractor as it's at a different place. He thinks it might be a 3600.
Thanks,Jim

CA2230 is not a production code. A production code (actually called the Unit Number on the foil sticker under the hood) would be a single digit number followed by a letter, then one or two more digits and one last letter.

CA223 does look like the beginning of a 3600 model number, the CA2 at the beginning means that it is a 3600 made sometime after late 1976 (They used CA1 from 1/1/75 through around October of 1976 and then CA2 after that). The second 2 would mean that it has a gasoline engine. The 3 means that it has live PTO, but the last character should be a letter indicating what transmission it has, and the letter "O" wasn't an option, so my guess would be a C instead of an 0, which would mean that it has an 8 speed transmission.

The other numbers from the sticker under the hood or stamped into the flat spot just aft of the starter will tell us more about when it was made. The serial number can tell us the year, and the Unit Number can tell us the exact day.
