901 power steering

I have 901 that I have been tinkering with the power steering pump is shot. A new one is cost prohibitive at this time. Anyone have any recommendations on a replacement off of an old car or truck that would work. i just hoping to get some use out it before putting more $$ into it at this time. Thank you for your suggestions.

Like Royse said, take a picture if you can of your old one and post it up. Or if you can't, can you tell us if the reservoir is on top of the unit?

There is a chance that you have a common Eaton pump, which is the same as what was used on '57-64 Ford cars and trucks. The difference is the tractor pulley and the tractor-specific reservoir. You can swap them over easily. I was in the same boat a few months ago and bought a pump out of the local old car boneyard for very reasonable money. Easy swap.

The local Oreilly auto parts shows a reman car pump for around $70. They didn't have any in stock but said they can send mine off and rebuild it for that price. I had another on the shelf and used it but I plan on sending the bad one off for another tractor I'm working on. They also can get a new on but it was pricey but cheaper than what you see most of the tractor pumps priced for.

Here are pics you requested. Could you give the part # you used at O'rileys . I am located in central Mn. Thank you for all your help

Sorry jensen766, I don't have one exactly like that.
It does say Eaton on the back, so hopefully it's one
of the common ones that the other guys mentioned!

Yes, that is the common Eaton pump. Couple of thoughts.

1. Cheapest option may be to rebuild it yourself if you are handy. Seal kits are about 20 bucks. That would assume that you open it and rollers are good and nothing's scored up. You may or may not get lucky.

2. Otherwise, if you don't feel like rebuilding or if it is junk internally, you can use any '57-64 Ford passenger car or light truck Eaton pump. Just swap over the reservoir, and maybe the fitting (depending on what you find in the boneyard). Iwent this route and found one locally, opened it up, looked good, so put a seal kit in it.

3. If you go the O'Reilly's route, make sure you keep your reservoir. It is unique to the tractor and it's possible the store will send you a passenger car/truck one back. Then you'd be up the creek without a paddle. My understanding is the tractor reservoir is pretty hard to find, also.

4. Last point. Whatever you do, you'll need an internal filter inside the reservoir. Was there another plate on the inside of your reservoir, or was it as shown in the pictures? There's supposed to be a stamped metal part that would locate/hold a filter element in the center of the reservoir. Hopefully you have yours, as it also is a unique tractor part, like the reservoir. Not reproduced anywhere.

Hope that helps,
Kevin

Hey, I see in your pictures now that you have that plate that holds the filter inside the reservoir. This is a good thing. Don't lose it, it's not reproduced anywhere.

The rebuilt is Master Pro part # 715-0102. It says $85.99 online. I guess the $70 was under my dealer account. They will probably say they don't have any in stock but the guy at my local store said they could send mine off. I went to school with him and he has worked at Oreilly's since we graduated so I trust what he said. He's not like most of the fine parts men we find these days!!! lol. The one I have has the rollers worn pretty bad so I think I will give them a try. Had a friend give me the pump so I won't be out a fortune.
