How can I test to find out if my 860 starter button is working correctly? I have a Farmall H that started real slow. I found out the starter button was bad. After I replaced it the tractor starts fine. Also, how do I remove the starter button if it is bad?

Starter button on the 860 does not work like the one on your H. The ford used a grounding switch to trip the solenoid. So if you push it down and nothing happen try shorting the wire going to the switch to ground. If it spins the engine over then yep bad if it does not spin it over maybe a bad solenoid

test lamp from bat hot to the start switch button. ( disconnect the wire there and insulate end ). Probe the lil screw terminal...Press button.. if test lamp lights, switch is good.

If you discover the starter button is bad, remove the shift lever nut, pull the lever up and off, be careful because there is a spring under it. The shift lever post uses a woodruff key so don't lose it. Once the lever is removed, remove all the bolts on the cover and remove cover. On the backside of the cover the starter button is retained by a nut. Remove and replace button. You may find it difficult to put the lever back on because of the spring, but be patient and you can do it.
