601 Workmaster Wiring

I was having trouble viewing my own post, created a second one, but looks like they both got deleted.

Everything electrical on the right side of the tractor has been replaced. The tractor is still 6v. My mechanic couldn't get the tractor to start unless he put a 12v booster pack on one terminal of the starter solenoid. Ran perfect, but wouldn't re-start on its own. I replaced the wiring harness, one connection at a time. It turned over but still wouldn't start. I tried using my jumper cables from my truck with no luck and I think I burned out the solenoid. The new solenoid came in yesterday and I installed it, I think I did it correctly. Turned the key on, pressed the starter switch and nothing. Then I smelled/saw smoke. One of the red wires, the one where two come together, attached to one of the small posts of the solenoid was melting all the way up to the terminal block. Looking at a wiring diagram, it doesn't seem to indicated 2 wires going to one terminal. Was hoping someone may be able to tell what I did wrong from my pictures. The nuts on the solenoid were on and tight when I tried it.

According to any 601 wiring diagrams that I have ever seen, there should not be two wires on either of the solenoid small terminals, so without know where the other end of those two attach, I couldn't make assessment as to why burnt.

With the double wire, one goes to the other side and to the ignition coil. The other goes up to the terminal block. The single wire goes to the starter button.

It appears what may have caused the short is the socket for the generator light which my tractor never had. It's easy to have the center terminal extend out and ground itself on the socket. I have taped it up.

sebagolakeranch is correct. I have just finished rewiring mine. One wire goes to the terminal block and the other is routed around the front of the engine and connects to the coil on the other side. At least is does on my 641.
