Ford 545 serial number location

Where is the serial number located?
Is there any place on the internet that tells year of manufacture by serial number?
Thanks guys.

There should be 3 numbers on the flat spot facing up on the bell housing just to the rear of the starter. The first number should be the model number, which won't be 545, it will be a series of letters and numbers that says exactly which options it came with. The second number should be the serial number, which should start with a letter, either A, B or C, which says where it was made, followed by 6 numbers. I can't find anywhere that tells you the year based on the serial number for that model, but the third number on that flat spot should be the production code, which could tell us when it was made. If you can find those numbers, post them and someone here should be able to help you decode them. Some of the members here have some original Ford books that list serial numbers for years as well.

DD511F is the model number. It says that it's a 545C with a diesel engine, no PTO and a power reversing transmission with 4 forward and 4 reverse gears.

0A21B is the production code, and it says that the tractor left the assembly line on January 21, 1990, during the day shift.

C639343 is the serial number. I can't find serial number ranges for "C" serial numbers after about 1987 or so, but extrapolating makes me think that that serial number is probably about right for January of 1990.

They started making the original 545 in 1979 and continued that model until 1983. Then they made the 545A from 1984-1988 and the 545C from 1989-1991, and the 545D after that, and they didn't change the look of them much over the years, so if you just say "I've got a Ford 545", then I guess that some folks assume that it's the original '79-'83 model.

I answered your serial number question in your other thread. The serial number is most likely C608424, not 0608424, which would make it a 1979 tractor.

Hey Sean! can you tell me how to decipher my tractor:
New Holland
545D
dd5pw2
OD26
A444507
Thanks for any help!

I'm not sure on the P in the middle of DD5PW2, but DD5 is a 545C, and the W means that it is an Industrial model with no PTO option available, and the 2 at the end is the transmission type, but my references don't list that one, but given that a 1 would be an auto reverser and a 3 and 4 would be manual reversers, I would guess that a 2 would also be some sort of reverser or shuttle type of trans. Please let me know what kind of transmission it is so I can add it to my documentation.

OD26 would mean that it left the assembly line on April 26, 1990.

A444507 is the serial number. The A at the beginning means that it was assembled at the Antwerp, Belgium plant. The A and B serial numbers are not well documented as to the ranges of numbers for the various years, so I can only assume the 444507 is correct for an Antwerp tractor made in 1990.

Thanks Sean! I found my Service Manual and it confirms what you told me for the production date. I will get back to you on the transmission to confirm! How do I figure out what the engine Size, model, family and hp are? this tractor has this number for the engine of C000757 / OD17. I am having difficulty pinning this info down. Thanks again for any help!

I'm not sure what the C000757 for the engine means, other than possibly a serial number. The OD17 means that the engine was assembled on April 17, 1990. Look on the right side of the engine block, down low on a flat rail that's just above the oil pan and if that same C000757 is stamped into the metal there (not a raised casting number), then that is indeed the engine serial number.

The only engine ever put into that model tractor at the factory was a 201 cubic inch 3 cylinder diesel with 4.4 inch bore x 4.4 inch stroke, so if it is original, that's what it would have. If it has ever been rebuilt it may have been bored over or re-sleeved back to original, you wouldn't know that until you had it opened up though.

After doing some more research on my tractors, I am being told that the engine model is a 332T/JC
Engine Family 2NHXL.03.3A1J
63 hp
3.2L
does this sound right for 188-1991 545d? it is difficult to find correct info on these.. thanks for all your help! JImmy

They made a replacement crate engine called a 332, which was a 192 ci 3 cylinder, and the T at the end of the 332 would indicate a turbo, so maybe it had a replacement 192 turbo engine installed on it at some point. But your model number says it is a 545C and that model only ever came form the factory with a 201 ci 3 cylinder engine.

(quoted from post at 08:36:20 06/25/13) I answered your serial number question in your other thread. The serial number is most likely C608424, not 0608424, which would make it a 1979 tractor.
Hi Sean, I am hoping you could help identify what year my Ford 545 is. S/N: C602339.

Thanks

Tractor Number: A423721
Model: DD5PW2
Unit: 4J19B
Engine: 4J13
Trans: 4E06
Hyd. Pump: 4H11
Rear Axle: 4J19B
Hyd. Lift: 4H23
I'm trying to find any info on my Ford 545D

Model: DD5PW2 -
DD5 should be a 545C, but read what I say about the Unit Number below.
The P is in the spot that should be for the engine type (combination of fuel type and exhaust type), but that is normally a numeral, not a letter, but maybe they added "P" as an engine type at some point. If it has a turbo diesel, then the P might indicate that, but the parts site does not show a turbo on the 545D either.
The W says that it has independent 540 rpm PTO.
The 2 at the end means that it has the 8x8 power reversing transmission.

Unit: 4J19B - The tractor left the assembly line on September 19, 1994 during the day shift. This was after the 545C had stopped being made and the 545D was in the middle of it's production run. I do not have any references for model number designators later than around 1992, so they may have continued to use DD5 for the 545D, which could explain the date and the fact that yours is a 545D with the DD5 model designator.

Tractor Number: A423721 Serial number. The A at the beginning indicates it was assembled at the Antwerp, Belgium assembly plant. As I have stated, there is not much documentation for the serial numbers for the European assembly plants, but the little I have seen indicates that they did not assemble anywhere near as many tractors at Antwerp as they did at other plants in the early years, so A423721 is probably a correct serial number for 1994,

The rest of the numbers are the date codes for when each of the major sub-assemblies were assembled.
Engine: 4J13 - September 13, 1994
Trans: 4E06 - May 6, 1995
Hyd. Pump: 4H11 - August 11, 1994
Rear Axle: 4J19B - September 19, 1994 during the day shift
Hyd. Lift: 4H23 - August 23, 1994

6M05 is a date code for January 5 of some year that ended in a 6.

DD5 should be a 545C, but my records show that they were only made from 1988-1992, so no year that ended in a 6. But my records for model numbers ends around 1992, so they could have continued using DD5 when they replaced the 545C with the 545D, which was made from 1992-2002, so it could be a 1996 545D.

Hi Sean,

I have a 545D with a New holland Casting# 87800157 for the cylinder block.

There is also another casting # as seen in the attached photo.

I think my Serial numbers are:

ID7268591
81875257

Can you please decode?

My engine has seized and I would like to order an rebuilt Ford 201 cu 3 cylinder to swap in. Will it fit?

Thank you,
Nate

Hello Tractor Guru I read the post about how to find the series numbers . The first thing I looked in my Ford Service Manual and did not find it. can the Guru help me out

005PW2
6A30
*A437591

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Duelsport

6A30 is a date code that means January 30 of some year that ends in a 6.

A437591 is a serial number for a tractor made at the plant in Antwerp Belgium. The rest of the number is fairly high, so it is probably a 1976 tractor. My records show that they had gotten from A000001 in January 1965 up to A168001 by 4/1/1968, so it is definitely not a 1966 tractor.

005PW2 doesn't mean anything that I am aware of.

Once you have around 10 posts, this site will let you post pictures, and a picture of the tractor would help us identify it if you can't find any other numbers, but try looking on the underside of the right side hood panel, up above the battery, to see if the foil sticker might still be there. If it is, post those numbers back here.

DD5Pw2 is a 545C or 545D, with a diesel engine, independent 540 rpm PTO, and a 16x8 synchronized manual shuttle transmission.

6A30B says it was made on January 30, 1996. Since it was made in 1996 it is a 545D, since they made the 545C from 1988-1992 and the 545D from 1988 through 2001.

(quoted from post at 09:36:14 08/22/12) DD511F is the model number.

Please help give me any information you can on these numbers I am desperate, here are my numbers
KD5P1Z
8AO7
A441632

It is supposed to be a Ford 545 somewhere in the mid 80s but I'm not sure
Thanks in advance...
