Hey Sean! can you tell me how to decipher my tractor:(quoted from post at 16:48:44 09/07/10) There should be 3 numbers on the flat spot facing up on the bell housing just to the rear of the starter. The first number should be the model number, which won't be 545, it will be a series of letters and numbers that says exactly which options it came with. The second number should be the serial number, which should start with a letter, either A, B or C, which says where it was made, followed by 6 numbers. I can't find anywhere that tells you the year based on the serial number for that model, but the third number on that flat spot should be the production code, which could tell us when it was made. If you can find those numbers, post them and someone here should be able to help you decode them. Some of the members here have some original Ford books that list serial numbers for years as well.
Hi Sean, I am hoping you could help identify what year my Ford 545 is. S/N: C602339.(quoted from post at 08:36:20 06/25/13) I answered your serial number question in your other thread. The serial number is most likely C608424, not 0608424, which would make it a 1979 tractor.
(quoted from post at 09:36:14 08/22/12) DD511F is the model number. It says that it's a 545C with a diesel engine, no PTO and a power reversing transmission with 4 forward and 4 reverse gears.
0A21B is the production code, and it says that the tractor left the assembly line on January 21, 1990, during the day shift.
C639343 is the serial number. I can't find serial number ranges for "C" serial numbers after about 1987 or so, but extrapolating makes me think that that serial number is probably about right for January of 1990.
