3400 single clutch disc direction?

Ok, by the cnh site it looks like the clutch disc goes in with the spring hub TOWARDs the flywheel. No writing on the old disc that I can see.

Anyone agree?

Don't know that tractor and has been a few years since I did my last clutch job but if I remember right the long side goes to the pressure plate

I agree with Bern to check the service manual... IN general terms I usually try to put the biggest part of the hub into the flywheel pot but it still requires a thoughtful assessment of where it's actually going to bind up. The new disc is not marked at all?

Thanks for that reminder Bern - I totally forgot to open the manual. Once in it reads "NOTE - where a previous type clutch disc..... the side with the longer hub protrusion must face the pressure plate, except......."

So it should be like the above illustration and the snout of the hub should go towards the pressureplate and the spring dampened flat face will go towards the flywheel - right?

If that's what the service manual reads, then go for it. I just know that some 3-cylinder tractors have the long hub facing the flywheel. It's been too long for me to recall for sure, but I want to say the 4600 is that way. I will never forget that, because I put one in backwards once and did all kinds of damage that I don't care to reminisce about.

Rod, it's not a new disc - it's what I took out in December when I began the motor rebuild.

Ahh... Well I'd just eyeball it... fit the disc to the flywheel and see how it looks one way then the other. Ascertain where the hub is relative to the splines and pilot. As a general rule I always put the bulk of the hub into the flywheel pot but if you have the service manual, definitely read up on that. I've never worked on the specific clutch you're dealing with...
