ford 2110LCG rear tire width

I've got a '71 Ford 2110LCG with 18.4-16.1 turf tires on the rear and want to start plowing. I have a 3-14 plow, and the turf tires are a spinnin' (as I guessed they would)....

If I move to Ag tires, are narrower tires going to gain better traction than wider tires?

I'm considering 11.2 X 24, 12.4 X 24 and 14.9 X 24 to keep the height the same on the tractor.

Next question is - will all three above fit on 10 x 24 rims, or do I need to go wider for the 12 and 14s?

Any help would be appreciated.

Given the same diameter to the tread and the same tread design, a wider tire should give you more traction, plus they will have better floatation so they would be less likely to bury themselves if they do spin.

10 inch wide rims should be fine for the 11.2 and 12.4 tires. You might be able to squeeze a set of 14.9's onto 10 inch rims, but they would definitely be happier on 12's.

Do you have a line on some 24" wheels and centers? If so then I would go with the 13.6s or 14.9s.
You'll have a little higher ground speed than a 3000 but that will be the most useful size.
That said, if you don't already have a line on 24s I would suggest you rethink things and go to 28" equipment. 28" centers and rims were used on everything from the 8Ns onward and will be Much easier to find.
I run 12.4X28s on my 3000 just to lower the profile for getting under limbs and branches while mowing. I tried 11.2x28s for a while but got rid of them quickly. Small tires will dig them selves in SO quickly and high center the tractor that it will surprise you - especially when plowing.

(quoted from post at 19:59:11 05/27/15) I put 12.4 x 28" on the rear and 6:00 x16" on the front. Seems to be working good.

KC - I have 6 x 16's in the front now. With 12.4 x 28 in the rear, is your rig tipped forward due to the larger rears? I'm trying to keep it fairly level without having to replace the front spindles.

12.4x28 on rear and 7.50x16 on front. Almost perfectly level. If I had it to do over, would try 6.00x16's. The 7.50 came up on craigslist first so bought them... 7.50 can hit the steering cylinders and bend them unless you dish them out like in the pic.
