1988 Ford 3910 PTO Feather Engage Adjustment

Hello,
I have a 3910 that when engaging a bush hog engages hard just like the older Ford 4000's etc. I know the later series II tractors have a feather engagement feature. Can someone tell me how to fix or adjust this?

Thank you

(quoted from post at 18:43:21 05/19/15) Looks closer to two years ago. Thanks for looking that up!

Just went by today to look at my tractor. The entire stop is missing which is the issue. Guess someone broke it off. Trying to find the replacement part tomorrow.

(quoted from post at 21:31:58 05/19/15) Yeah, the 10's had the bracket. Don't think it makes a damn bit of difference tho...

Yeah everyone I've ever seen had it. Funny thing is I don't see it mentioned in either of my series II manuals though.

I find they feather fine but I've never related that to the stop. I dunno. Mine are all in place but I've always related the feathering on these thing to the speed at which the lever is pulled ahead.

(quoted from post at 15:03:36 05/20/15) I feel it does work. If you have the bolt adjusted correctly and pause for about 2-3 seconds, I think it makes a huge difference.

Yes it works great. Only problem is that on most of these tractors its a very fine location where actual engagement starts. Basically you get close to area move PTO lever slightly and wait 2-3 seconds. No response do again until you find the spot. If you don't wait it will never work properly. This is why the stop really helps you out as the exact location is fast to place every time.

By the way the stop is obsolete but found one at a dealer in TN. Just shipped it today so looking forward to getting it installed.

I have an '82 & an '84, no stops! My '89 does have one!
Directions for "feathering" not found in 10 series operator's manual, but are included in 10 series 2 manual.

What page as neither of my series II manuals reference the feathering. Even the illustration doesn't show the stop???

page 14 in controls, instruments & operation section, this is in operators manual for 5610, 6610 & 7610 series 2. I do not have manuals for the 3 cyl series 2 tractors!

Edit: My 3910 is an '84 blue stripe, no stop, no feathering instructions in that manual.

Yep blue strip is not series two but I'm curious. So if you try to feather it in does it still work that way? Also, I will check my series II 3 cylinder manual as where I was looking was much further in. It shows the PTO lever but no stop and no mentioning it either. Maybe something else in another section though. Thank you.

Both my blue stripe & black stripe SEEM to feather the same! In fact, I never realized what the stop bracket was for! Just engaged the black stripe the same as the blue stripe!
