Ford NAA Golden Jubilee - Steering Gearbox Issue

From the research I've done, I'm pretty certain the top bearing needs replacing in my steering box. The steering shaft appears to "unscrew", and raises up about 1/2" when turned to the left. Steering is easy, turned right, very tight when turning left. My service manual doesn't cover this problem, nor does it detail the steps required for removal/disassembly/repair. Can anyone help with instructions?

1, get a real service manual. even the lowly fo-19 has steering gear overhaul

now, remove grill, side tins and hood center, battery, ir cleaner, etc. steering wheel, then dash and cowling

now you have access to the box, with some wires, cables and vreg in the way.

its a ballnut and wormshaft that engages a double sector that in turn engages the rear single sector.

if the top bearing died, there will be rollers in the box.

you will want to remove ssector arms from shafts and adjuster covers, then slip the sector shafts and ballnut out. clean box, id replace both bearings, and races unless they looked good. might as well do seals and all. then reassemblein reverse order, new lube. i like 00 grease at this point, but 85-140 should work if the seals are good and sector shafts not worn.

both sector arms swept back, align teetch on sectors and ballnut so you get same number tuns of the wheel center to either lock

I'm having similar problems on a 601. I found this on youtube, it might be some help to you.

I prefer the Ford manual but the I & T manual will suffice and is less expensive.

The fo19 is small but does have regular fix it items in it, like steering box. Is cheap too. At less get that one and master parts catalog.
