Rest-o-Ride vs modern

Hi all, just looking for opinions. Just picked up a Ford 860, to eventually replace my 2N, and it has the Rest-o-Ride seat. It would need to be rebuilt, and I would most likely be modding a more modern seat to replace the steel seat pan. Or, should I just get some sort of aftermarket suspension seat? Never going to be a show tractor, but I don't know if the comfort of a R-o-R is worth considering vs modern. Thanks.

The problem with the Rest-O Ride is the life span of the rubber torsion springs. They can last for forty years or forty hours. rebuilding can be expensive and time consuming. I still like to keep mine looking original though. If you opt for a modern suspension style, be advised that the lower cost ones have vinyl covering that does not hold up well in sun light.

The springs on the lower cost ones may not hold up well either and if one break, you'll think your tailbone broke too. The come down pretty hard with only one of the 2 springs holding.

i just got done with 6 hours mowing and previously did 3 before that. all on a ror ON A 950.

A GOOD ONE IS GOOD.

oN THE OTHER HAND. THE PADDED SEATS WITH BACKS FOR 100$ AT THE FARM STORE ( darn capslock ).. are mighty fine too.,

Thanks for everyone's opinions. Except soundguy, lol, as you said the same thing I've been thinking, Resto would be nice, but so would a padded high back....maybe I will set it aside, and throw a high back on for now, rebuild the Rest-o later, and if I don't like it, sell it.

The Rest-O-Ride seat was a good seat in its day but it is not a modern seat with back rest, arm rests, etc.

Rebuilding a Rest-O-Ride seat is time consuming and expensive.

Unless you are working on a restoration project, get a modern aftermarket seat.

All my 65+ have the padded high back, plus my loader 850. It is nice to lean back sometimes, or have armrests.

also, modern seats usually give you more options on position,
letting you sit more up and back.
and can tighten down the spring rate adjuster.
All helpful if you are big....
