Why is this hydraulic control leaking on my Ford 3000?

Bought this aftermarket remote setup and everything works fine, but it has a little leak out the back. See pics. All the o-rings are there and the bolts are tight. I went to take it off a minute ago and when I got all 4 bolts out it went "pop" and let some hydraulic fluid out. I thought the o-rings took the place of a gasket?

Leak is worse than it shows here.

just a guess here... you have an after market vavle that is using the oval rings and are something I have never seen before, so I dont know how well the work. Next the big ring looks damaged in the picture.

But. in a normal valve the o rings are critical and some are x-cut or square cut o rings and very problematic if you don't get the perfect rings in the correct places. So the dealer rings are usually required to seal one of the regular valves... Now factor in the oval rings and you really make me wonder if it will ever seal correctly with the 2200 lbs of pressure on the hydraulics.. Again, just a comment..

I would get some really good sealer and dab it on the rings to help them seal,, make sure you have grade 3 bolts and try to torque it down and see if you can seal it. If not get new rings and start over. again with some sealer on the rings with clean surfaces. Dont strip but torque bolts correctly to get max seal on the rings. Make sure rings are correct thickness.

(quoted from post at 18:30:59 05/07/15) fluid looks milky , water in the system

That is correct, I've worked on that issue and will flush it again. That's not the issue here, though.

Looks to me like the two smaller O-rings in the center are a bit flat and mabey not making a good enough seal. You might need a fatter profile O-ring.

The plate shown above HAS to be flat and clean.....
like as seen in the clean rings around the small holes.
It should be as clean as the plate on the NEW valve.

The oval rings are sitting on dirt/rust/etc.

The o-rings will seal well when compressed between the two plates,
but the old plate has rust/corroded areas preventing the good seal.

I'd suggest polishing the old plate with a wire wheel or such,
and then see what you have for deeper pits where the o-ring sits.

.

Well, I took it off again tonight for the 4th or 5th time, cleaned and scraped it all off real good, changed out 2 of the small o-rings for 2 I had laying around , "fluffed" up the othersand clamped it back down with some blue locktite.

No leaks. Just needed some moral support. Thanks guys. :D

A little over $300, seems to work fine, I tried it out on a hay tetter, which that and raking is my intended purpose for this old tractor. Easier on gas, save some wear on my newer tractors...and I love those old 3 cylinder Fords.
