Brought home a 740 yesterday

Brought this 740 home yesterday for $600. It ran last fall and is pretty strait. Its also got a row crop
drawbar that is in great shape. Its a 55 model serial # 38817. Its got 01 style fenders on it but Ive got
a set of 00 style off a 960 I'm building a puller out of. Best part was it was only 30 miles from home.
One question I have is that it has the early style trac o lite headlights on it, could those have been on
the 55 models?

I'd call that a nice score, even at 2x that price! Just don't see many 7xx's.
Do you want a Ford 132 6x16 plow to add to your collection? One on an auction near me soon. Expect it will end up scrapped, as it's not a SAR.

Looks great and at a nice price. I haven't seen a '55 without flat footboards. I would like to know if it's an early or late '55. Can you post a serial number

Looks like you got a good deal and a good find. Lighting kits were dealer supplied optional equipment/accessories so whatever the dealer had on his shelf would have been used when the tractor was ordered. Old stock was used up before the new parts went into use, just common practice.

I'm not sure when the style of the lights hanged, but someone here can probably tell you, but it is my understanding that the dealers installed the lights back then and if they had older style lights left in stock at the dealership after the newer style lights were introduced they would probably have used those up before they started using the newer style.

Nice! I wish I had not traded in the 740 I had a few years ago. But at least I still have my 960 NF and 960 WF, both great tractors.

Thanks for the info on the lights. I was wondering if they would have used up the old style first and then switched. It seems like the 740s all had the angled running boards but the 960 we have has the flat style. The parts book shows the front bracket being for a 900 only. Maybe the flat board was used on the 5 speed trans models? I am working on a 660 for a customer and it has flat ones also

Nice score!
It isn't trying to hide anything. Just an honest old tractor.
I don't know if I would paint that one.
Freshen up the rims if needed. Tend to any rust on those hard to find fenders - even if they're incorrect.
They're sure ungainly looking tractors though.
But I'm starting to gain more of an appreciation for the RCs.

Nice find! Tough to find a 700 around here.
Would you be interested in selling those 960 fenders?
