Ford 5000 Steering

Ford 5000/5900 p/s ticks to the right, and sometimes violently depending upon RPMs. We're thinking the problem is in the steering column under the instrument panel, but before we tear into it, I'd like to poll you guys.

yes.. its the steering box..take apart and inspect for bad bearing and other worn parts.
 
The earlier 5000's had the p/s cylinder up under the nose of the tractor but the later ones had the cylinder inside the steering column like the later 4000's did. Which power steering setup do you have? Easiest way to tell is the earlier one had the lines from the pump go forward to under the nose of the tractor and the later ones only had the lines from the pump go back to the steering column.
