I am working on a Perkins 212 diesel engine in an IH 475 made in England in 1975. Someone else tore the engine down and I'm trying to get it back together. The dynamic balancer has timing marks on the gears sort of like the dynamic balancer in a Ford 801 / 4000 four cylinder diesel engine. I've done plenty of them in years past and I know that there are timing marks on the crank and the balancer driven gear. The problem I have is that this engine probably has timing marks too but the driven gear on the balancer shaft is driven off the front crankshaft gear and it is behind the timing cover and I am trying to figure out how to put the balancer back on without taking off the front of the engine since it is a major job to get to the timing cover with it in the tractor.
What I would like to know is, Are the balancer counter weights supposed to be opposite the crankshaft journal throws or where???? If some of you guys are working on an 801 diesel with that set up of dynamic balancers could you look and tell me where the counter weights are in relation to the crank throws???? Sure would save me a lot of trouble to know.
Thanks, Zane
