Ford 600 hydraulic adjustment

I recently purchased a ford 640. the previous owner had adjusted the 3 point hitch to only raise high enough to get his finish mower off the ground (about 6 inches). i'm trying to figure out how to get it back to the point that it will engage the lift to the full range of height. the control lever has full range motion, so i'm assuming it is something internal. any and all info would be appreciated!

thanks!

o full lift in EITHER Draft mode or Position mode?

correct. lever slides full range, only lifts a little on both draft and position settings... starts raising 3/4 way up on the lever and stopping when fully engaged.

the guy that sold it to me was selling it for a friend, but said that it was set that way on purpose.

sadly no way of contacting him.

Will it lift a real load or are we talking about just raising the arms/links? If it will lift a real load, will it hold it up when you stop the engine?

yes, it does lift the 62inch mower and I've had a few hundred pounds on the boom pole. keeps it right where it is when shut off.

fairly certain it isn't a leak or a problem with the hydraulics, just some sort of adjustment that regulates the range of motion in the lifting.

I can see range being set to some limit in Position control, but for Draft control, it is kind of "digital", i.e., control valve is either in LIFT or LOWER. In Draft control, there is no indication (feedback) to the linkage/control valve to tell it "position" (amount of lift), so I do not see how your observed behavior is occurring. Not to say that it isn't, just makes no sense.

The only way that I can think of to get those results would be to shorten the cylinder rod so that it's only pushing the upper arms that much when the piston is fully extended.

Ok, I was able to run through the scenarios again last night.
When in draft control the arms will fully lift (had a little help pushing on the top link spring, as wasn't big enough by myself).

k, that pretty much nails it down to internal linkage adjustments, for which top cover must come off.

Thanks.

This will be the first time diving into anything internal... any springs that I will need to watch for, or is everything self contained?

Also, any advice/tips on how to take it off, or things I need to be careful with??

I have a shop manual now, but it really doesn't get in depth (probably because most have some idea of what's going on).

Be sure that the 3 point is all the way down before you lift the cover. Also the cover with all it's parts underneath is pretty heavy, probably seventy lbs. or so, so between the wight and getting the gasket to release it will take a good pull.

Ok. thanks to all for the information and help.

I was able to speak to a New Holland dealer last night, and he said there is a "position control spring" that needs to be adjusted. I just have to take the top cover off and bring in the assembly. Special tools needed to make that adjustment.

I'll try to get the cover removed this evening.

Thanks again for all the help!!
