Adding Power Steering to 63/64 Ford 4000

I have been looking around for 63/64 Ford 4000 and one of the requirement in my search is power steering. I had read that putting factory power steering on the 4000 could cost $1200 or more. I hate passing up on tractors in my price range if installing power steering really isn't that costly. Can anyone confirm what it would cost to add factory power steering to a Ford 4000 4 cyl.
thanks, Keith

I bought a complete unit for $700.00 but I would not sell one for that $1200 is in the ballpark

The going rate for a complete PS retrofit kit for a 53-64 ford utility tractor is $1,000 in my area.

Add to that the best part of a full day to install it if you have not done it before.

Caveat: Most such PS systems need at least some repair work and sometimes much repair work to function properly.

Figure on several more days work if you want it to function properly.

Where are you located?
There was a seller at the big tractor swap meet this weekend in LeSeuer, MN that had a 621 with PS.
A little rough, no 3 point, engine stuck.
He was asking $1700 for it.
Buy that, swap the parts over and resell the tractor for $1400.
That's the way I got PS on my 3000.
If you are interested do a search on Minneaplolis craigslist - for LeSeuer.
He had an ad there with his phone #.

Mine was an original, I do not think much of the aftermarket ones

If you have a loader, you really need power steering.
If you don't have a loader and can't steer that tractor easily,
there is something wrong with the tractor. Power steering will
allow you to wear out the parts faster so you know what is wrong.

I was able to retro-fit a CharLynn unit on my Jubilee with a
loader for right about $300 including shipping. Used of course.
It was from a 640 and I fabricated the brackets at home.
Here's a picture of it when I was mocking it up to fit.
Been working fine for a few years now.

I had a 4600 and with PS and the upper seal on the steering shaft (the one with the steering wheel atop) was leaking...on PS tractors this tube is sealed at the top and contains PS
fluid....lubricates the steering worm and balls at the top of the steering unit so for ease of design apparently they just decided to place the seal at the top of the tube. Anyway, in the
process of doing the job I caused unrepairable damage to the steering box. An OEM cost me $2000 from the NH dealer....couldn't find a used one.

Recently I added PS to my 3000 for $600 with an aftermarket unit I found (many places selling them) on the www. It's self contained and you can use your existing non PS steering box with
it. Don't know if it fits a 4000 or not but you might have a look. Just Google after market ps for Ford tractors or something of the sort. Lots of replies. Shop for best price obviously. Since
the 3 cylinder blocks are all about the same the PS pump hole is/should be there already and the cylinder replaces the steering arm on that side. Pressure sensors that are normally in the
steering box are part of the cylinder so basically you have the pump, the cylinder on the left steering arm, deleted right steering arm and a link arm connecting the left and right wheels.
