Running rich at idle

Hello
I think my tractor is running a bit rich at idle because when it does I can hear a slight popping sound coming from the exhaust pipe. It only does it when it warms up so I figure it's getting a little too much fuel. This is on a ford 960 tractor.

Thankyou

Popcorn popping can mean lean.

Try quick throttle up if it stumbles and catches up it may be lean. Ifitgurgles and offs black rich.

Another test, if you thought it was rich, or check anyway not test, pull the hose to the air cleaner and see if itnhekps. Restricted air filter will be like adding choke and make rich.

Lastly, are valves set or too tight when hot?

Vance clean and working?

It gurgles a little bit and blows some smoke. My carburetor is a zenith with only one adjustment for idle on it.

Yeah last time I change the oil in the air cleaner was a year ago and th mesh b the inside had a lot of dirt on it but I never cleaned that

Thoroughly clean the mesh.

Also remove the canister and inspect the down tube. It is not uncommon for the down tubes to be nearly obstructed with oil impregnated dust.

That said, a clogged air filter will certainly cause a rich misture under heavy load but will likely have little effect upon mixture at idle unless extraordinarily badly clogged.
