Can Jubilee steering box be rebuilt pretty easily?

A local (maybe a loco?) tells me I have a bad bearing in the bottom of the steering box. Its really hard to steer, and it does that thing where you can see the steering wheel raise and lower a little as it fights on the internal threads.

I'm not ascared to tear into it, but am looking for a pointer or two.

Thanks guys!

sounds like a bearing gone.. but beware.. it's usually the top bearing, not the lower one. as lube leaks out, the top bearing goes dry and dies, while the lower bearing usually still sees oil and grease residue to lube it. However with no upper thrust bearing, the steering shaft can rise, and the lower bearing cage could get deforemed if it did not stay in place when you steered back.

if you can count , you can get the gears back together.

Here are a few photos of the steering gear box disassembled. You can click the link to the album for many more photos of the jubilee disassembly.

Nuttin to it if your time is worthless... The fix'N part is EZ the getting it off and clean'N part is not my cup of tea... Its a simple mechanical part but is still work.. The bottom bearing will come apart as easy as the top bearing you can not put a pattern to it either has the same effect...
