Wooo HOOOO, parts came in - pistons had rings pre-installed?

Ok, 3 cyl gas 158 bored .040 over. The pistons come as assemblies, should I pull the rings off and check end gap in the cyls or leave everything together and trust advertized specs?

The "do it right" part of me says pull the rings and match to each cyl, verifying end gap and piston clearance....

I've got to watch it because if I wait too much longer I might port and polish the head while the machine shop is rebushing the rods.

Yes, I would take the top ring off each piston and check it in the corresponding bore.
I bought a 4000 gasser about a year and a half ago that had been bored .030 over and had new pistons installed.
But it had .020 over rings in it. They had about .060 end gap.
Someone took somebody else's word and didn't check.
Just slapped it together.
Needless to say it didn't make much power.

Think just checking the top ring is enough or should I remove and check the whole ring pack?

I suppose the top ring will tell me if they're the right rings.

Next to plastigauge the Mains.
