last 400 rpm

Good afternoon gentlemen
Let me pick your collective brain. 1965 2110 gas select o speed hand and foot throttle. I have a slight miss in the top 400 rpm. If you get it going in 10th, pull the throttle all the way back and hold it there the engine will run all the way up very smooth but start a slight miss when it gets there. If you let go, the throttle will slowly fall back about 400 rpm and be smooth as silk. If while holding the throttle all the way back and a load is encountered, governor will respond as it should but go back to the slight miss. If i tighten the the nut to hold the throttle in place to keep it from slipping forward then it is to tight. So is it gov linkage, acc pump, fuel pump, vac advance or timing. It does still have the holly carb which performs flawlessly and is great on fuel. This is the same when standing still although the miss is not as pronounced. Thanks for reading and have a great week!

Lowell,
Can't help much here but have you put a timing light on it?
It's a goofy way to do it - you have to read the book - but it's a cheap thing to check and at least rule that out.

I may have to do that again, it has been awhile. It just seems strange being the extreme top end only. I don't spend a lot of time at that rpm so i forget about it. Maybe just a tweak on the timing will do it. Thanks a bunch Ultradog
