I saw this add last night its just 12 miles form me and I have a bud that just retired and has gone tractor/implement crazy ( he's put'N all his saved money back in circulation)...
I put him on this we go a call'N... I get up with the owner and come to find out he and my bud worked at the same plant that shut down this year forced retirement but both were ready to call it quits but it was hard to give up a well paying job...
The owner brought it in the early 70's I can not read all the numbers and did not put much effort in it but could make out C25 so I am gonna put it at a 1970... I could see some improvements over my 69 like the hydraulic lines bolt to the hydraulic pump in a manifold arrangement...
It has original paint not beat up with a few other things like ford stickers/tags on both battery cables... It has not been used hard and keep under a shelter...
The bad he said it had not been run in the last 5 years he would not admit it but I could tell he did have some issues get'N it to run... It has a new battery and a somewhat new starter the fuel tank does have some rust... We show up it will not start He had swapped out the plugs with those garbage Autolites it had a Zenith carb
Against my religion but for a bud I go to working on it... I like to get paid for my time and normal will not give it away on a non runner unless we settle on a price before I get it running... This boy would not budge it was obvious he did not need the money he had lots of new and very nice classic cars/tractors...
The plugs were fuel fowled (black and smoked up but not wet) I found he had broke the tab off the rotor when he removed the cap to clean the points...
I drive back to the shop and pull a new rotor off the shelf then make a call... I tell him I got a rotor and Cash whats the least he will take if it runs out as good as he claims... $4600 is the best I can get him too...
I go back slap the rotor in it,,, Its missing on #1 I had seen were the intake is leaking coolant around #1 intake port and suspect coolant is getting in to #1 cyl. because of that.. It will not rev past (my guess 1200 RPM but did run good after I ran it awhile but will not rev up to normal RPM)... The right brake has a issue and both needs adjusting... The carb is fat rich does those junker Zeniths have a power valve it looks like some sort of power valve in the float bowl...
The PTO clutch is stuck but I could turn the PTO engine off clutch down but it was extremely hard to do... I could hear it scraping in the clutch area when I forced it... It may be its rusty dunno...
I stopped there and went to dickering he would not budge... He will sell it, its a nice tractor he did not need the money me and my bud rode home with our money... It is as close to a original well keep 3000 as i will ever encounter I spent a few hours with a good bud enjoyed it BUT I grantee ya I will not give someone I don't know my time away getting there tractor running again if its for sale if we can not come to agreement that satisfies me on the price......
