800 reverse idler gear

Hi everyone, I have a Ford 800 with a bad reverse idler gear and shaft. New assemblies are almost $400. Does anyone know where I might be able to pick up a good used one? I live in Missouri and I think the same assembly is used on several models up to the 2000 series.

Thanks for all your help and great advice,

Charlie

In general best to say what model tractor you have, vs just the series.

If you have a part number , post it. Many of us are away from manuals, but don't mind helping you search out parts from many vendors if we have a number.

Pretty sure all the 5 speeds in the 600-2000 series used the same reverse idle gear.
I replaced on once in a 860. The teeth were wore out on mine from not running true. The used one I got from the junk yard had good teeth but the shaft was wore and gear didn't fit tight. I took it to the machine shop and they made a new shaft and bushing for it.

Its a 5 speed. The teeth are still good but the shaft is bad. It also wore into the "holder" on one side so its not true anymore. Should there be shims or a spacer to keep the gear in one position or is it free to float on the shaft about 1/4 inch or so??? I can clean up the bore and press in a bushing but now sure if I can handle the shaft and holder. Would rather just replace if I could find one cheap enough.
