801 fuel pump adjustment

I recently mistakenly turned the governor and idle screw on my Ford 801 diesel fuel pump. It will usually start but dies after a few minutes and then difficult to start. Any suggestions on readjustments?

Welcome to YT! I have a 901D and I can't think what screw that would be. can you give a little background? Like maybe why you were turning screws? What you are describing is usually indicative of fuel supply blockage, but it can also indicate an internal wear problem.

Will it restart after setting 5 minutes, then die again? If so the pump needs repair, retainer ring is breaking up inside, and bits of the broken ring are plugging the return side causing shutdown. Can confirm by loostening the two screw timing cover when it starts to die again, if it picks speed back up with housing pressure releived pump needs serviced. This is assuming you have good flow to the pump..

I thought is was a fuel supply and thought it was the bleed screw. Turns out the linkage was disconnected and had no fuel flow issue.

I will try this, it would occasionally die while bush hogging and I thought it was a fuel problem. I replaced the fuel filter and did bleed the system. Unfortunately I thought the governor screw was a bleed screw.
