I have Ford diesel with 5 sp & single clutch. Has hole in dash from SOS. Bellhousing has model 820 & serial <140946>.Block # B9NN6015 A Rear end - 312476 Trans - NOA7006 B Do I have 601 or 801 engine? Do I have 601 or 801 rear end? Tractor is painted red. Thanks for any help. Vaughn Tractor has 14.9x28 with power set wheels.

B9NN 6015 A is the casting number for the 144 ci diesel engine from the 601 series that was used from late 1959 through early 1960. So the engine left the factory as part of a 1959 or 1960 601 series tractor.
Since the model number stamped on the transmission bell housing (820) is obviously incorrect for the engine, we have to assume that either the engine or transmission was replaced at some point. The serial number is for the 820 tractor that the transmission is from, not the 601 that the engine is from, so it is not a 1961 serial number. All we can tell from the serial number stamped next to the 820 model number is that the transmission left the factory on a 1957 model 820 tractor.
As the others have said, look at where the toplink attaches to the rear axle to tell if the rear end is originally from an 8xx or 6xx tractor.
Also, for dating the individual components, look for date codes similar to this on all of the major components of the tractor, like the engine, transmission, axle trumpets and hydraulic top cover (Thanks to JimUT for the picture on his photobucket):
