600 with 223 ohv 6

years ago we cobbled a ohv 223 six from a car into a ford 600. Has anyone done it right? Did Funk make a conversion? I'd like to do one right this time.

Funk used the flathead 226 in the early funks and the 215 OHV in the later funks. Funks were built for the 8n and could be used for the 9n/2n. the funk was not produced for the 600 model.

The problem is the engine has to act like a structure to support the front end. Car engines aren't
usually strong enough. You need a "tub" something like Oliver or Massey Harris to carry the stresses and an engine can just set in there and spin it's flywheel. The regular Fords, and other makes, had enough metal in short-length engines to take it, so long as you didn't get too rough about it. Crossing a dead furrow and twisting the engine sometimes was enough to open the head gasket.

That said, I've seen nice Fords with sixes, V6's, V8's, V12's, etc. (Nothing with a Boxer Engine, Yet. Probably gets in the way of the steering and radius rods. As might be expected from a contrarian, Ford evolved into 3 cylinders, not six. )

The block's structural integrity isn't the problem for me. We operated the hydraulics off a loader style pump. This would be a chore/show tractor, not one to plow the south 40. Just open to BETTER ideas on doing this. using up leftovers.

I found this thread that says that the 6 cylinder engine used in the 6000 series was the same as the 223 that they used in the Ford automobiles, and that it should bolt right up to an 800 transmission, so it should also bolt up to a 600 transmission as well, but the front axle mounting is a different story:

If it was me, I would use the rear axle from an 800 or 801 series rather than a 600 because they are stronger and would stand up better to the increased horsepower.
