Ford 545A Powersteering

A friend and I are working on a Ford 545A commercial loader tractor. The right power steering cylinder gushes fluid when operated and when he removed the cylinder everything looks to be in good shape except for the seals and "O" rings. Checking with NH we found a kit to refurbish the cylinder, but the price was very high (over $150). Any suggestions where we might find a less expensive source for a rebuild kit or a used cylinder in good working condition? The inlet and outlet are quarter turn from each other and have the square shape heads. Appreciate your thoughts as usual, Thanks

Thanks Soundguy but I should have mentioned that its quite unique and we found some hydraulic shops who say it has to be a specific kit for that unit. I quess I'll have to run over and see if my friend has a part number from his NH visit - its a simple but special set up on the piston.

I just looked it up on the CNH parts web site. The part number is 03D02 power steering cylinder, Cascade which supersedes 03D01 so maybe we can figure out who Cascade is and ?cross reference parts? The web site lists 2 545A's the correct one being 3 cyl tractor loader(1/84-11/88 which is listed 2nd in the column. Gotta be a used one around - a new cylinder is priced the same as a small home. The new one has a 1/4 turn on the intake/outlet vs. inline on the old one's ports. Appreciate all the thoughts - finding the supplier to CNH was a great idea - I'm on it - Thanks

Messicks shows a kit for $59.71 . Not bad considering a 335 kit like in the picture is $100.00.

Sounds like you CNH dealer is marking it up a bit. partspring.com shows the seal kit for $58.25 and they have 370 of them in stock.

yup.

My local guy has rebuilt every cyl we have ever taken him, including antique stuff from the 50's

Thanks Guys you all never fail me. We'll check out the sources I knew you would come up with. Those prices are a third of the Dealer price. Time to order and put the machine on the road.

You're quite welcome.

Messicks and partspring are both CNH dealers, but they also have a big on-line presence, so either they are getting deep discounts from CNH because of the volume they are moving, or your local dealer is doing some pretty hefty marking up.
