Tach Drive on 6 to 12 volt c/o

I'm looking into changing over my 6 volt Ford 850 to 12 volt. The ad on yesterdays tractor's said that it does not include a tach drive. What is a Tach Drive and do I need it to convert my tractor. Also how hard is it to convert a tractor over? Do I have to do anything to the points?

Tach Drive should be what is called the Proofmeter.

It runs off of a cable from the Hyd. Pump. No real need to change it on a 12v conversion. If yours is lighted, might change to a 12v bulb.

Others might have more info, but I think that's what you are talking about.

Big difference in tach ( proof meter) and tach drive. The drive is in the end of the hyd pump on a 53-64 00/01

On a n with a proof meeter, the drive is on the governor.

On a thousand series with a Lucas gen, the drive is a worm on the back of the gen.

The drive comment is aimed at those who are using it to replace'lucas Genny with drives on back.

Don't matter to yours

Original post did not specify which ad on yt he was looking at, but I assume that it was for an alternator for a 12 volt conversion, and so the ad was saying that the alternator did not have the tach drive, which would affect a '65 or later tractor, but not a '64 or earlier model.
