Helping a fellow out with his Jubilee(53). It didn't run when I picked it up from his house, and right off I noticed several issues. A) the six volt battery was connected with neg, ground, but he wanted it converted to 12 volt anyway, so didn't focus on that. Then I noticed that the PTO lever wouldn't budge. I lifted the hydraulic unit off the top and the side cover with the shift handle and was able to free the slide rod up and with a little polish and grease got it moving freely again. It had some burring on it, but the fluid was well past time to change. Once I got the 12 volt conversion completed and went to start the tractor, it acted like the started was seized. However, when I pushed the clutch in, the engine fired right off, but when I slowly started to release the clutch the engine labored and almost died. I tried it a couple of times with the same result. In checking what could be going on I noticed two things. A) the Sherman lever was stuck and would not budge. B) regardless of where I placed the PTO lever, the PTO shaft wouldn't turn, which I believe may be because the Sherman is jammed. With the tractor shut off I can turn the PTO shaft by hand easily. I pulled it out to be sure it wasn't jammed, and it came out easily. Suggestions???
