I am looking at a Ford 2600 gas engine tractor. It is in good condition; however there is a small electric fuel pump added to the gas line. The
owner say it was added to aid when starting the engine. It is controlled by a toggle switch which is turned off once the engine is running. Why
would this system be necessary to start the engine?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Necessary because somebody decided not to rplace the OEM mechanical fuel pump located at the upper left front corner of the timing cover.
