Time to turn dirt?

This showed up in my yard yesterday. Not mine, though - my cousin bought it and just had it delivered here. Sounds like I may get to try it out, once he finds some new shares for it. Should make the TW grunt a little!
BTW... any of you know where the s/n or other ID is on these? My cousin asked me, but I don't know.

Serial should be on a brass tag around the headstock..
That thing will make the TW grunt in good ground and beg for mercy in clay. 7x var 14-22" on land? That will take a LOT of snort.

There is something mesmerizing about a moldboard plow. I remember my grandson saying I was helping papa we were making dirt.

I know it will take a lot of power, but it isn't THAT bad, is it? I pulled a 5x16's for years with the 7000 or 7600. That would be about the same h.p. per inch, with this one behind the TW and set at 22". And I could always narrow it up some... I figured I'd run out of traction before h.p.

I don't know much about equipment that big but was doing a little arithmetic here.
My 38 hp 3000 pulls 2-16s pretty handily in our soil here.
That equates to about 1.2 hp/inch of plow.
So your 170 hp at 1.2 hp/in should pull about 140"
That's 7 bottoms set at 20".
I know that traction has a lot to do with it but I'm still plowing with only my rears and you have FWA.

I was doing some math, too. Jubilee is at 1.1 h.p./inch with a 2x14 (pulls it fine in 2nd). 7600 is at 1.05 h.p./inch with the 5x16 and can manage 5th, in Dual Power, but runs out of grunt in hard areas. (7000 is about the same...actually dynoed 90 h.p. Both can run out of traction if it's at all wet) 7 bottoms at 22" is 154"...which is 1.1 h.p./inch behind 170 h.p.
All kind of academic anyway, as I MAY use it ONCE... I have no intention of buying it.

I think the thing people tend to forget is that this is not just a width calculation... with extra body width comes a LOT more depth and the power requirements grow exponentially. I think you could pull it fine at a reduced width and depth as long as you don't land in the furrow. A neighbor of mine pulls a BB115 which is a 6x14-22" in furrow semi... with a 7710. Now, saying that he pulls it is kind of a statement... this tractor is probably turned up in the vicinity of 120 hp and ballasted to over 13k... and it struggles if a tractor ever struggled with a plow. I think that's about the deal you'd be in for with the TW unless you can keep it dualed and heavily ballasted.
By comparison I pull a 4x12-20 mounted AB85HD on my 7710 and they're well matched. Sufficient traction for most situations and ample power.
