2110LCG battery cable length...

I'm finally getting around to fixing what the previous owner cobbled together for a battery in my 2110LCG. I bought a 4DLT to replace the Excide 65S he had in it, but the battery cables that look to be original don't seem to be long enough.

The previous owner just sat the 65s in the battery pan and hooked the cables straight out the side and down - unfortunately the cables were rubbing on the hood and almost wore through the covering.

When I installed the 4DLT, and routed the cables around the back end of the battery pan (which seemed the right way to do it, the cables weren't long enough. I put a tape on them and they measure about 36" long, but aren't long enough. In looking, all of the "standard" cables for these are 36" or 36 1/2" long. My negative needs to be closer to 42" long to reach.

Am I routing the cables correctly (per the yellow lines in the photos), or were they routed correctly before - rubbing on the hood?

Also - in looking for new cables, do I really need a 2/0 cable? The previous ones look to be 1/0, and I've seen a bunch in the 2-gauge range.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Tool.

IF its a 4dlt.. 30 inches is correct but hard to find... Both post are close to the tank. If its something else, a 30 and a 36 for the negative will work where the post are at opposite ends on a car battery.

Be sure to put an extra layer over the postive cable where it travels by the battery tray. Thats a common area for it to be rubbed into and catch fire. Take an old garden hose, split it and tiewrap it over the positive cable in that area.
