2110LCG transmission fluid

I have a '71 2110LCG with a Select o speed transmission that has a slow leak.

I called the local New Holland Dealer and they said I should use 134D transmission/hydraulic fluid. At $80/5Gal, I started hunting for other options. I went to another Allis dealership, and they said to use ISO68 tractor transmission fluid.

I've looked all over the web to confirm if ISO68 is a good replacement/substitute for the Ford 134D, but didn't come up with much.

Will the ISO68 fluid work as a repalcement for the 134D? If not, is there a different substitute that will work?

I don't want to spring for $160 for the 134D, but I also don't want to screw up the Select o speed transmission.

Thanks,

My gut says no. You need to find a fluid that meets or exceeds the old ford M2C41A spec. I'm hearing that even the 134D does not do that. Edit: I just checked the product literature for the lubes I sell. My ISO oils specifically state " Not for wet brakes or transmissions." My UTF does meet or exceed the Ford M2C41 spec, but depending on your part of the country it may or may not be available where you are.

ISO 68 appears to be a straight hydraulic oil which is not a UTF. The Select-O-Speed needs a fluid that has multiple different properties, like good gear lubrication plus anti-slip additives to keep the wet clutch packs from slipping while also acting as a hydraulic fluid for the hydraulics in the transmission. There are a number of generic UTF's on the market that meet the Ford/New Holland M2C134D specification that cost less than half what New Holland charges for their brand. Tractor Supply carries one called Travellers Premium Universal Tractor/Trans Hydraulic Fluid that's currently just under $40.00 for a 5 gallon bucket around here and goes on sale a coupe of times a year for 4 to 10 dollars less. If you are lucky enough to live in an area where Walmart stocks a generic UTF they are usually a little less than Tractor Supply. Just make sure that it says on the label that it meets the Ford/New Holland M2C134D specification.

As others said, no straight hyd only type oils, get a utf. Meeting
m2c134 is about as close as you will normally get.

For that 'allis' dealer, I'd avoid them...

Lubricating oil prices are beginning to decline.

My CNH/Kubota dealer tells me that Kubota has told him that Kubota oil prices will be reduced by around 10% in April/May, and CNH has also said that price reductions are on the horizon but have not yet announced timing.

More reductions will likely follow.

Wait a while.

The info in those pictures claims that the Legacy ISO 68 fluid meets the Ford New Holland M2C41B and 134D specs, so it appears that they just use ISO 68 in their product name and it is more than just an ISO 68 fluid and should be fine in your S-O-S. I was going off of the actual specs on what a real ISO 68 hydraulic fluid is.

But,,,,
The oil the dealer has on the shelf, he purchased at the old price. That would be a bummer if the dealer just got in a large shipment. Then by the time he moves it the price may be back up.
As in many things in life, Timing is everything.

I wouldn't hold my breath. I've talked to a Viscosity Oil rep several times this month and he never suggested anything about a second price decrease. There have been a couple special discount opportunities in the last 4 months and one across the board decrease. I got wind of the Mar 1 price change and held off on my last order. My old stock inventory level was at rock bottom when the price went down. I'll probably get screwed next time if it happens.

Stay tuned.

Only a small part of the cost savings of reduced crude oil costs have worked through the lubricating oil pipeline.

And only a small portion of lube oil production cost is directly related to the cost of crude, as complared to fuels.

I believe you're incorrect on that one! What I see is' "is a functional alternative for". In the oil world I live in that says the same thing as "may be used for". We, in the lube business, know there's a difference between "meets or exceeds" and "may be used for." If it says the latter, run - don't walk - to the nearest "meets or exceeds" lube!
