Well, It worked fine, no leaks before I did the tractor split to change the engine crank.

Now after its mated back together, today we finally got to fire the engine for the first time.

Got excellent engine oil pressure.

BUT while the engine is running, I have a steady stream of hydraulic oil coming out the weep hole with the cotter pin in it in the bellhousing.

I didn't do anything to the transmission while it was apart, other than cleaning the gunk out of the bellhousing.

So is it likely that my input shaft seal has dried out and is now leaking? or do I have bigger Issues?

I haven't tried to put it in gear yet, assuming the oil is coming from the SOS, however it is taking a long time to get all the air worked out of the hydraulic pump on the side of the motor, and it seems to leak a little oil where the hyd pump connects to the cam gear on the side of the motor. I did put a new gasket there when reinstalling everything.

wondering if I need to loosen the hyd pump up re-seat everything again to stop that leak.

My other question is could the hyd pump be leaking into the bellhousing through the manifold somehow?

Sure wish I had a scope about now, so I could go through one of the attachment bolt holes and see whats going on inside for sure.

Tonight went form an extreme high of getting to hear it run, and run well, to an extreme low of where the heck is that oil coming from...

Does anyone have a part # for the Input Shaft Seal for the pump on the front of the SOS, its in a 64' Ford 4000.

I would like to have a seal ready before I split the tractor again in case I get lucky and thats all it is.

Here's a link to the parts drawing for that part of the transmission.

It shows a pair of seals at the front of the shaft (parts labelled 36) and a pair at the rear of the shaft (labelled 35).

I'm not 100% sure on the 4 cylinder S-O-S models, but if it's like the later 3 cylinder models I think that if the front seal needs to be replaced you must split the tractor at the rear of the transmission and take just about everything else inside the transmission out to get to it.

Talked to forddoc today, hoping it is the front seal on the front pump. 4 bolts in the bell housing to pull it and replace the seal, o-ring and gasket.
Got the parts ordered and will split the tractor when they come in.

Well went to do the split today and when I took the hyd manifold off I noticed it was wet all along the plate and had been pushing oil into the bellhousing..

Good deal, no split required and I had an extra set of of o rings...

Still haven't found a torque for those bolts, snug + didn't work for me, I broke the manifold. Apparently my snug is too much.

Otw to pick up another manifold and o rings for the pump side.

Hopefully will get it back together today.

Ok, on the ride to the salvage yard to get a new manifold we decided to go ahead with the split since we had it ready and already had a new seal.

The old seal was leaking some, so that makes me feel better to have it replaced.

30# is all I put on the manifold bolts, we fired it up, no leaks, and once I got the air off of the pump the lift arms came up with no trouble. So with new O-rings 30# seems good so far, if it leaks any later I'll update it with whatever we end up with for a torque on them.

Got a small leak on the thermostat housing, should be a simple fix.

And a small exhaust leak on the manifold, should be a quick fix for that as well, I hope to have those wrapped up tomorrow afternoon.

Other than that, she ran like a top, still have to set the timing and maybe tweak my carb settings, but its going in the right direction, just an unexpected trip for the new manifold.
