Next item - 8000 tach

Thanks for all the help w/the idiot lights and the kotter pin question. Also in the process of getting the tach to work. Robbed the tach cable off the old 8000 and hooked up to the "new" 8000. It spun like a helicopter. Robbed the old 8000's tachometer (which I'd bought several years ago - used) and put on the new, hooked up cable, and the needle bounces all over the place. I remember having this problem when I first bought it and put it on the old 8000. Finally got it to work right by not screwing the cable down tight to the back of the tach. I've tried that, routed the calbe a few different ways, and I can't make it work right. Not sure where to go next. Anyone else had this problem? Who works on tachometers?

bouncing can be due to crud in between the spinning magnets and the pickup in the tach... and using it will usually clean it up and the bouncing will gradually decrease by using it. Also a good dry days to dry it out help it..

Assuming the cable is not binding... hope this helps...

Ran it for a couple of hours, no change. I've done everything I know to do, which isn't much - short of taking it apart. Did that to an old one just to see what's inside. Wish I knew enough to diagnose and fix one.
