Ford 860 clutch pedal pivot pin

My clutch linkage is all sloppy and out of adjustment, so I pulled it off the tractor to refurbish it. Of course the clutch pedal was flopping around on the pivot pin. Since the pin was loose and appeared to screw in and out of the trans housing, I decided to remove it for cleaning.
Yes, I realized as I heard it fall, that there was a nut on the inside.
Surely I'm not the first person that's done this?
I'm hoping someone can tell me that it's possible to remove the shift cover and fish it out.

I haven't had one of those apart, but everything I have worked on with a clutch the linkage went through to the bellhousing area, and was actually forward of the transmission.

I would guess that would require a split to reconnect, as the shift cover will not access that area.

I've never done this myself, but I have to think that a strong magnet could be used to fish it out and then hold it in place again for re-installation.

You might get lucky to do it by way of removing the starter then going threw that hole but not sure if there is enough room between the flywheel ad the bell housing to do so

You could leave it in there and save yourself some time. Just
get a new nut and replace the bolt. But if it interferes with
some moving part it could cause damage. Or the good old
magnet.

To all other posters on this thread: the part in question threads into the transmission case gear box area, not the clutch cavity. See blue arrow in attached pic.

I could not for the life of me find this part in the parts book, but I would have to think that the nut could easily be held in place with a magnet or mechanical fingers with the shift cover removed.

To the original poster: I would NOT leave the old nut lay in the bottom of the case and simply hope that it stays there. You should easily be able to find it with a magnet, or maybe find a kid with small hands to reach down in there and fish around.

Board giving me fits editing my post.

As a comment to one of the posters, mid you need in the ry area
of the BH, pull the steering box, easier than a split.

To the op, if it won't fish out, try an oil drain and go at it from the
bottom. It might flush out

The nut fell into the bottom of the transmission and only one way is out the top. It is to big to come out of the drain hole. take the top of the transmission off and use a magnet and good luck. I wouldn't run it until the nut is retrieved. Five speed transmission gears are expensive.

Forgot to mention, there should be a star washer, supposedly locking the nut to the case, in there too.

Your correct. I looked at my 841 just to be 100% sure and yep the pivot is almost to the back end of the transmission but that makes one wounder if her heard it that means he has little or no oil in the transmission since a nut hitting oil should not make much is any sound

Wayne and Jeepking1,
On my 64 4000, I had that nut come off when I was young and I remember that I had some trouble getting it back on. Been years but I think you need a thin 11/16 open end wrench.
Just make sure to grease that peddle from now on!

I would pop the shift cover off and take a look... With the main shaft in I can not see it but with it out I can from pix I have when I rebuilt one..

Caution when asking for advice some don't know and will post sum'N it makes them look smart at least to them...

You got lucky and Bern jumped in...

nice pics
had an 850 that came thru here for a quick, get it running good,
clean it up and trade it...

hmm, why is that piece of angle iron bolted to the floorboard.
Took it off....ahhh...shaft would pull right out, angle iron was holding it in.

Now I remember.
I could not get a wrench on it!
Spin the rod from the outside while you try to hold the nut in place with your fingertips.
I remember dropping that nut 2 or 3 (or more) times and having to play go fish to get it back.
It was not fun.
And I was a skinny kid. 5' 10" weighted 125 lb back then.

That"s what I get for servicing my naa last weekend! I had such a hard time getting that bung out I thought I was gonna break it! Can only blame myself as I put it in 2 years ago :) !

Thanks for the replies.
Definitely not a lack of fluid in the case, when I
removed the pin, it poured out.
Pulling the shift cover this weekend to fish for it.

Agreed, I'd sacrifice a thin strip of steel with a magnet on it or something.them lilmrare earth magnets are real strong. Glue one to the sheet metal strip so it don't stay on the nut may bee.
