860 Water Jacket

Did the water circulation through the cylinder head of the 172 cu. in. engine get changed when the third digit became a 1 (**1) in 1958? I have a 1957 model 860 and have just discovered that this tractor has a head with three of the water ports that don't match the location in the block on the left side.

I believe this has been covered before. From what I remember of someone else's explanation, the differences between what appear to be coolant ports in the block and head and gasket are due to some of the "ports" not actually being used as coolant passageways, but were rather just there for the casting process. Anyone else who has more specific information please feel free to jump in and either expand on this or correct the information.
