Ill fitting aftermarket parts

It took me about 4 hours with a hammer and a grinder with a slitting wheel to make this lower grill fit properly. Boy was it crudely made.
And it barked up all my pretty yellow paint messing with it till it fit. I'll have to touch that up with a little brush. I had Ken put a couple of small welds on it where I cut it.
It will never be a real nice fit but for an old tractor it will do.
I've just about got this thing ready to put on the bush hog this summer.
Another one of my cobble jobs.
It's been a fun project.

It don't look too bad from here. Seriously. You did a good job making it fit.

I feel your pain on ill-fitting aftermarket stuff, though.

Two pieces were a lot of fun for my 641. One was one of the gray primer doglegs. Good luck getting that to match an original hood panel. But with a LOT of block and hammer time, and filler, it looks good. Should have spent the money and bought the black primer one (maybe?), or better yet, the Carpenter piece. The other is the A&I aftermarket grille. Very thin, and it might end up fitting by the time I'm done with it. Considering welding reinforcement spokes behind the vertical slats, just to gain strength. Advice is to get the Carpenter "restoration quality" piece at twice the price.

That all said, based on those first two screw ups, I got a pair of "Ford licensed" restoration quality rear fenders and they are really, really nice. Heavy gauge, crisp, and seem to match up the originals pretty well. Not cheap. Guess you get what you pay for. I know I saved a boat load of time using them because they are basically a scuff-and-shoot scenario. No bodywork needed.

Nice "cobble" job! I got a New Holland replacement fuel line to go from the filter to the pump on my 671D that wouldn't fit without some mods as well. Thought it was a fluke but the second one was built the same as the first. Cost enough alone to have to then fix it to fit it!! Five minute job took an hour not counting 2 trips to dealer.

I like the shade of "buff". It matches what I remember from first seeing it as a kid. That was earth shattering for me at the time, to see red and gray turn into blue and buff.
