Fluid Change, 641

So, I've got the new (to me) 641 D home. I've been busy at work, but I've had some time to play around with it a little. This is my first tractor, and I'm having a lot of fun already!

I want to change all the fluids. The previous owner "Couldn't remember" when it had been done last, so I would take that to mean probably not anytime in the recent past. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I've been doing some research as to what to use. The engine is in pretty good shape, starts right up, has just a touch of white smoke when running, which clears up once the engine warms (about 2-3 mins or so).

1) Crankcase Oil- I have a 144 Diesel. The Owners Manual says to use a SAE 20w?

2) Oil Filter- I have a Screw-on type, Mine is a DW1A, which is equivalent to a Fram PH8A.... Any suggestions as to what filter to use?

3) Trans/Rear End- Manual says a SAE 80W Mild Pressure extreme lubricant.

4) Hydraulic- M-4864-A is what the manual specifies. I've read all kinds of discussions about what to use- and am confused!

5) Fuel Filter- NAPA 3165 is on there. Plan to use the same.

I'll also check the level of steering lube, and check out the fuel tank.

Anything I'm missing?

ANY tips greatly appreciated... I'm new to this tractor (and DIESEL) thing :)

first off use only hd diesel oil.. 15w40... If you do snow plowing and cold work in winter, go to 5w40 hd diesel oil... but always hd diesel oil!.

Hydraulics and power steering take tractor hydraulic oil.. NOT hydraulic oil, but Tractor rated hydraulic oil.. aka universal tractor fluid (tractor hydraulic oil)... It has the need additives to safely work in most ALL tractors. Tranny and rear end, you can run either gear oil or ... run the same utf, again,, tractor rated hydraulic oil. This way if there is a leak between the rearend, hydraulic, and tranny, the fluid will all be the same. If you have an oil bath air filter, run the same oil that you run in the engine.

wally world and most all auto parts will sell what you need.

motocraft fl1a filter, or fram ph8a, or any other interchange for the ford rated filter will work fine.

Thanks... Confirms what I had come up with doing research. I think I know what I need now.

I am also going to change out the coolant, it looks pretty nasty. Is there a good way to flush the system?

I've go the Haynes (I&T) service manual, and the 'real' Ford manual is on the way. Brakes are the next job.
