SOS Parts Source

Looking for the output shaft and coupling sleeve for a 66 3500 SOS trans - anyone have one or have an idea where to find them? I'd expect most junkyard wouldn't want to mess with transmission internals but would just sell the trans whole.

<Coupling PN C5NN4777A, item 55 on FHN diagram 04A01>

I got this tractor with a blown motor and the coupling was disconnected for towing but it now looks like when I reengaged it after fixing the engine it didn't go on as far as it should have, (looks like the lever roll pin is sheared, so the lever was in the engaged position but sleeve wasn't all the way) with the result that it stripped out at least partially this weekend..... Looking through the side of the case I can tell that about 3/16" of the splines on the output shaft are gone, and I suspect corresponding damage to the sleeve splines. I think I can make it still work, but I'd prefer to replace both. Thankfully it looks like the output shaft would be easy to swap with the tractor split, and the sleeve would also be easy - just need to find replacements.

Thanks,
~John

Where are you located?
I don't know if the parts you need are the same but my friend Ken has an SOS from a 4400 he would sell pretty cheap.
It did not go forward and would only kinda go in reverse. We pulled tranny and rear end out and replaced them with a 6X4 with IPTO. I think the tranny output parts and coupler would fit your 3500. Someone here will know.
It's up at in a shed in central MN. I could bring it down to Minneapolis next month.
Email me if you want to get in touch with him.

CA - Salinas area. Thought I put that, oh well...

From everything I know that trans should be the same as mine, but would appreciate confirmation from the experts.

Can you please check and see if he has the coupler? That's the part I really need and is small enough to ship... would love to have a spare trans, but not remotely close to worth the shipping from there.

Got the tractor split this evening and it looks like the trans output shaft can be used, but the coupler is junk. About 3/16" of the ~1" spline on the output shaft is gone, but the rest looks to still be decent. Coupler splines are completely gone however.... so much for my hope of putting it back in backwards as a temp fix.

Sounds like you can get by with just the coupler, which would
actually a part that would go with the final drive-rear axle..
Looks like Sean has located a source for that. The coupler
normally slides on that output shaft at least an inch, so you
should be good. I do have a complete trans, the later one that
fits 2000 and 3000 3 cyl. Ford. It works great. I am located just
9miles East of Neveda border. So a little closer. But just the
coupler should do you.

Well, turns out that what I got off ebay is an early coupler that is a different size and doesn't work... so back to square 1. Go figure....
