Can you ford guys tell me what paint you have been using on the 801 series. Has anyone used the CNH paint from the ford dealer. Is it a good match for the red and gray. Thanks for the help. Ed

The ford paint is what we have always used on all our projects. It is the closest match in my opinion compared to some other brands of paint I've seen. Nothing bothers me more than a red and gray ford that is painted red and white. Instead of the new holland reducer that is sold at the dealer we use a Dupont thinner called Nason Ful-Base. The number for the fast drying one is 441-20. They also have medium and slow so you can match it to the weather conditions. Our NH dealers also carry a hardner for the paint that we use on the sheet metal that works very well and gives it a good shine

I get my paint from a paint store. I take a part that has not been painted, such as one side of the hood, after cleaning the inside well with DuPont polishing compound, to the store and they scan it with the digital analyses, then reproduce it. You can get it in a grade consistent with how much you want to put into the job. Never put expensive paint over a ten hour prep job and never put cheap paint over a fifty hour prep job! There is no such thing as a Ford dealer to buy your paint from, as they are now Fiat dealers, and few of them care a lick about old Fords. You have to choose the correct gray from three and the correct red from two. The XX1 red is called 1958-1963 orange red, and the gray is 1958-1963 gray. The correct gray has a somewhat yellowish tint compared to the earlier gray.

Tony Jacobs recently posted these numbers as the official paint codes for the 801 Red & Gray paint available at your local CNH dealer. I believe he stated that is as close to a perfect match as you will find.
Red-Orange: M1J-956-SE
Gray: M1J-957-SE

I have used paint, thinner,& hardner from the local CNH dealer with very good results. I also used TSC paint on a rake a few years ago ( the brand may have been BPS) the paint faded a lot all I can say it hasn't rusted.
